This little project was all about trying to tart up the ‘bit down the side’ and while it is still a long way from finished, it looks a lot better. The idea of growing sweetpeas to hide it all has been good and it is looking much better (because you can’t actually see a lot of it anymore!)

I still have so much to do to the “bit down the side” but money and time seem to get in the way. I have a place for a plant to grow up the fence but just need to decide what it is to be.
Meanwhile, the sweetpeas are still climbing.

Not too bad seeing as I didn’t do anything at all apart from plant these. Sweet Peas from last year’s seed.

The small bed that I have made for these sweetpeas really is not deep enough I don’t think for sweetpeas and so we are growing by very slowly and I don’t think they will get anywhere near the top - but when they do flower they will flower all the same and look quite nice.

The runner beans are making a runner for the top of the wigwams, even against all the strong wind we have had nearly every day this week. The sweetpeas continue to be small and growing only slightly, a lot of this caused I am thinking by the lack of preparation of the soil. I don’t think the soil where the sweetpeas are is really deep enough for their roots. However, they are growing slowly and will still manage to do something worth while I believe. I have used some of the twigs and things that I cut off the cherry tree earlier this week as supports for the sweetpeas.

These are the ones planted at the bottom of the “rustic” divider that I made. They have suddenly shot up, probably helped the by rain in the night and the sun during the day.

It is hard to spot them all here, but loom and you will see runner beans climbing up and at each corner the sweetpeas are having a good go too. Within two or three weeks this will be a tower of beans and peas.

These are the last batch of sweetpeas, planted to grow up the side of the new trellis bit down the side.

I am still pretty much chuffed with how these are going. I planted the first batch out and the other day decided to grow a second batch for maybe the back garden. The ones planted in the front I have snipped the tops off with the aim for them to grow a bit more bushy, and they are growing slowly. It has been very wet these last days, which they must like.

It was been quite a while since last post and that is mainly down to being out of the country and then various illnesses that have been going on. But, things have been moving. We had a long spell of sun followed by a long spell of rain (we seem to still be in that) which has been wonderfull for the garden and in particular the grass seed in the front. It certainly looks like a lawn now thanks to warmth and sun and rain.
We put up the second wigwam the other weekend and planted two of the bean plants and the rest of the sweetpeas. Some sweetpeas I have tied up against an old stump of a bush that has no branches or leaves, so will make a nice part instead of just a dead looking bush sticking out of the ground. This second wigwam is green, I am not so sure I like it as much as the red one.
