We have our first sunflower starting to flower!! Small at the moment and it seems to be pointing north, what have we done to deserve a backwards sunflower?!

We missed the blossom from the apple tree as I was not doing this website back then. A pity as we did have a lot of blossom which is now turned into apples. I am sure I should take one or two apples off to give them all a bit of room to grow, maybe I will.

The runner beans are making a runner for the top of the wigwams, even against all the strong wind we have had nearly every day this week. The sweetpeas continue to be small and growing only slightly, a lot of this caused I am thinking by the lack of preparation of the soil. I don’t think the soil where the sweetpeas are is really deep enough for their roots. However, they are growing slowly and will still manage to do something worth while I believe. I have used some of the twigs and things that I cut off the cherry tree earlier this week as supports for the sweetpeas.

I am hoping that some of these will top the fence. Photos here were taken a couple of days ago but I can say today we spotted a yellow flower starting to show on the tallest one.

A lot of thinning out has been done and I think a bit more is needed.

We are starting to get a nice display of ‘flowers for wildlife’ at the back. The seeds we sowed ages ago are now mini flowers starting to flower, while the seeds we sowed a little bit late at the beginning of the month are going well.

We spent a lot of the day tarting up the patio area. One day this will all be different, but for now we have it and so it should be kept to look good. A lot of weeding out grass and things from the cracks, lining paving slabs back up, and then scrubbing it all clean.

Why does the wind decide to blow when you are trying to get a close up of a bumble bee on lavender. Well, this is the best I could do for today.

The plan for ‘down the side’ is all coming together, and in a shade of blue. Last night I painted and placed a pallet up against the fence to give it a bit of a bright looking thing and something nicer than an old fence to look at. I put a ledge on the top and now we have a small shelf type thing to put pots on top.
Also for down the side is a small wooden box that I made out of pallet wood and again painted. Here will be the base of some everygreen plant that will climb up onto the fence, something green with red berries.
