Woolworths is a great shop! We did this last year, went in and managed to pick up a whole load of reduced plants for a quick sale. Last time it really was the dregs well past it, and we didn’t have a great deal of success although I am keeping my fingers crossed that some of the bulbs will show up this year.
They should I suppose by this time of the year if in the ground have green shoots on, but none of them do apart from one little bit of green spotted. I have put them all in some water until I have time to plant at the weekend, and we will see. In total, it has cost 2 pounds for four bushes, so you can’t loose.

I will have to look up info about these plants as today we saw the first shoots of the seeds we sowed just a couple of days ago! They are red, I remember that much.

It just so happened that today we got some slug gravel stuff in order to protect the sunflowers that we planted outside at the weekend…. and when I went to put the gravel around I noticed the slugs/snails had already been. One of Jack’s sunflowers has been eaten through the stem, and one of Toms has been nibbled but will survive. So now, have added a whole lot of gravel around them and hopefully that will sort it. I might just plant one or two more pots “just in case”.
We hate slugs!

The weather at the moment is fantastic for growing grass, lots of warm sun, and lots of warm rain. In just one week we now have grass starting to show in the front garden.

I don’t really know much about these as a plant or flower, they are some of the seeds that I bought off Ebay. I beleive they have red flowers, we wait and see what happens. They are tiny seeds, so we scattered them between two pots.

These are two lots of sunflowers that I bought off Ebay the other week. One the left are Velvet Red and on the right are Italian White. These show be smaller sunflowers that will hopefully set off the borders at the front of the house.

Maybe way too late, but here goes anyway. This is seed taken from last year’s plants that we got from Cornwall from family - so it is a bit hopefull that something will come from it but worth a try.

We have had it for some time now, in a pot and ready to be planted. I finally got round to doing it, and looking a the restricted root ball once I had it out of the pot, I think it will much happier now it is in the ground.

The sunflowers we planted outside into the garden today. Added netting (to keep the cat off) and slug pellets (to keep the slugs off), and we need to get some canes for them to climb up against. The rest is going well (apart from the cress which is now dead) and the tomatoes are next to the transfered to their own pots sometime hopefully during the week.

Not much to see, but they are now planted, possibly a bit late as everywhere I went to look they had sold out of seed potatoes weeks ago. In the end, freecycle came to the rescue with two potatoes, so this year just one container of potatoes and we will see how it goes.
Last year we filled the containeres mostly full of compost and planted the potatoes. This year, just a small bit of compost in and each time we see the shoots pop up we will add more compost until it reaches the top. This should then give us a much better crop, we will see….
